Every so often I come across a book I know I’ll never forget and A Light On The Hill is one of them. I’ve been a fan of this author for quite some time, but I’d say this is my favorite of hers yet. With the Biblical Cities of Refuge as the perfect backdrop, this tale swept me away with its rich history and heartfelt theme of redemption.Reading this book created quite an emotional tug-of-war in my heart. There are some heartbreaking events that happen, but there is beauty in the ashes. The love of God – and the hand of God – is present in their lives from beginning to end. The characters have some hard lessons to learn, but their journey becomes our own.
Once I started this book, I could not put it down. I kept on turning the pages as the late night turned into early morning. In my head, I raced with Moriyah to safety and longed to see her find healing and freedom. I could not stop reading until I’d reached the end. I had to know what happened to her. To all of them. I’m still thinking about their story days after reaching The End. I keep reliving so many scenes in my head. There is much to savor in the conversations and events that transpire.
It’s not a romance, but there is a love story woven in that took my breath away. I already want to re-read their story over. 🙂
I encourage all of you to read this book. It draws characters from the previous series, but stands strongly on its own too. With a message of healing and trusting God with the unknown, A Light on the Hill is a book you won’t want to miss. It’s one of my favorites of 2018.
I received a free copy from the publisher. No review, positive or otherwise, was required—all opinions are my own.

A Light on the Hill Cities of Refuge Connilyn Cossette 9780764219863 Books Reviews
I read many books through the year in different genres. It's a rare book that I want to reread again immediately.
This is one of those books. It's that good.
Faithful readers of Connilyn Cossette already agree that she's an outstanding storyteller. However, she just surpassed herself in this extraordinary book. Moriyah's life has been filled with fear and tragedy. She makes an unintentional, terrible mistake and finds herself fleeing to a City of Refuge to escape the man that wants to kill her. The story of her flight to one of the Cities of Refuge is suspenseful, compelling, and absorbing. Moriyah has become one of my favorite fictional characters.
I also loved the setting of the book. Although I've read many times in the Bible about the Cities of Refuge and understood their purpose, I learned so much more about them as I read through the book. I appreciate Ms. Cossette's research and attention to historical detail.
If you love novels set in Biblical times, this book is a must-read for you. I am already looking forward to the next book in this series.
Thank you, Connilyn Cossette, for this beautiful story of redemption.
A Light on the Hill by Connilyn Cossette was a wonderful book. This was my first time to read anything by this author and I will be picking up the rest of her books in the very near future. I'm usually quite hesitant to read fictional books from Bible times. Plus, I usually do not enjoy reading books written in the first person. However, this book overcame both of those obstacles with flying colors. This book was written during the time when the Isrealites first entered the Promised Land. It shed light on so many things that I had never considered during that time period. It is the authors idea of what happened, but it certainly opened up the possibility of what things could have possibly been like during that time period. The authors use of first person only served to draw me into the story and making me think I had a front and center seat to the events unfolding. Also, the author has a brilliant use of concise, descriptive words that leaves no doubt what the characters were encountering and what life was like for the characters. I really enjoyed her writing style and I am excited to pick up copies of her other books!
Thank you to Bethany House Publishers for providing me with a review copy. A review was not required, and all opinions are my own.
A Light on the Hill by Connilyn Cossette takes place right after the third book in the Out of Egypt series, Wings of the Wind. I loved the Out of Egypt series and was looking forward to the next series. I love that she continued the characters in the companion series.
Cossette’s writing immediately encaptures you into the stories and time period. You feel for the character and what she's going through. Right for chapter one you are thrown into the head first and it doesn’t stop. I read this book within two day, it was that good!
I also love that Cossette’s books are historically and Biblically accurate. As I was reading I could see how much research she put into this. Being the history nerd I am, I love to know that the historical fiction novels I read are historically accurate. I loved getting to know the culture and the cities of refuge more.
The complexity in this story is amazing! As more events start to unfold and layers of the story surface it's hard to put down. You just want to keep reading and reading, until before you know it, you’re finished.
I hated to see this book end. I loved Moriyah and Darek’s story and how there seemed no solution in the end. And at times I was questioning whether or not her story would end well. I loved this book to the very end and am greatly looking forward to reading the next one in the series.
I received this book form Bethany House for my honest opinion.
