The best thing about chap books for me, is the ability to curl up with my blanket and enjoy a poetic adventure start to finish. "Night Poems" by Ben Ditmars does not disappoint. The fact that I was also enjoying watching the moon chase the sun across the sky due to my own sleepless night, in no way makes me biased.
Ben Ditmars writes in an authentic voice. His words speak powerfully and truthfully. This is not a poet looking to impress with a dictionary vocabulary, but rather, he is one who demands you bring your heart on the journey with him. The presentation, on through the night, is both well thought and well presented. You come face to face with moments of discomfort, joy and if you have half a heart, there are some that will leave you with a sense of despair. The author does not hint and hide, but lays his own heart on the pages.
The book is high quality, with a fantastic cover, showcasing Mother Moon in all her glory. It will hold a prominent place on my Poet Shelf for many years to come...and on those sleepless evenings, I will return to Night Poems time and again.

I have NEVER been as moved when reading poetry as I was while reading Ben Ditmars' "Night Poems". Each poem, set by hour and minute, floored me and took my breath away, as well as several bringing me to tears with the depth of meaning and feeling enveloping each word. Absolutely THE most moving and emotional work I have ever read in my life, "Night Poems" touches deep within the reader every emotion you can feel.
Great collection of poems related to the night. Every poem, beautifully written, makes you feel something different and it is impossible not to feel moved by the way the words are waved together to create an amazing atmosphere. All of them evoke different situations that we can easily relate to. I don't really like reading poetry because I tend not to understand the message, but these poems proved me that poetry can be easy to understand and amazing to read. Well done!
This book blew me away. The author puts his heart and soul in his words. I had such emotion running through me reading this. I can't say one is my favorite because just when I thought wow, he blows me away with the next one. I would read and will read this over and over. I can't say I've read much poetry or even like much poetry. I've found a few poets who get deep in my heart and soul. Ben Ditmars is one poet who does this for me and more. You MUST read this book. Ben Ditmars might have titled his collection "Night Poems" as "Poems to Ponder" His metaphors and images are those to make his reader think; his poems are to re-read and savor. He eplores the darkness--the night--both surrounding and inside the soul with richness and depth. my favorite selection titled only as 0557 in my kindle version

Ben Ditmars is light on his feet as he takes us through the quiet nighttime hours where thoughts and emotions come uninterrupted. There is no drama to his words - just poignant feeling and harsh reality. When reading his poems I get the sense that the poet is resigned to life's ups and downs and even if he's describing his pain or longing, it's more to acknowledge its presence rather than complain about it. This book of poetry as a collection was smooth, and the transition from one poem to another felt organic to me. I enjoyed all the poems, but my two faves are 220 and 331. If you like poetry, this is one book you should explore.
I won't give just any poetry my time. I have no desire to read a mile long prose that only leaves you confused. I loved this book of poetry. I judge poetry based on the amount of heart the author puts in each piece. I could see that this was his life and his heart that was poured out onto the page, and he had me hooked from the very beginning. Let me give you a small sample of this wonderful book "2320 Half-moon kiss full lipped on concrete pavement in the dimmest glow. I held you briefly and we parted; shaking, jittery, though not from the cold. 2036 Because I can walk through lonely aisles always finding what I want in you." Now tell me, how could you not buy this book after reading that?
The poems that make up the collection Night Poems from Ben Ditmars were enjoyable to read. I'm a fan of short poems, and they delivered well in that respect. Many were brief glimpses into the inner workings of the brain late at night. I've often found that my thoughts get deeper when I'm trying to sleep but can't seem to. The subjects of the included poems are filled with questioning, longing, self inspection, and more. I feel that every poem is open to interpretation from a diverse readership, and poetry benefits from that. There is no one way to bring about a conclusion to any of them.

Ben Ditmars has created honest, insightful, and moving poems in enough of an abstract way to allow for many types of readers, while keeping them grounded enough to keep moving along on Night Poems` poetic journey.
